He regularly teaches Introduction to Environmental Science at Dartmouth and is actively researching environmental science topics related to air pollution and carbon accumulation in forests.  The Friedland packet uniquely prepares students for the quantitative aspects of the APES course in a way no other text does. In addition, information technology explores and explains every topic within the APES form description while offering a scientific and balanced approach to the fundamental concepts.   The Friedland text is praised for its accessibility and for familiarizing students with the findings that inform environmental determination making at all levels—from personal choice to national and international policy.

· Organized to follow AP Environmental (APES) Course Guidelines: This is the ?rst textbook created to accost the needs of teachers and students in the AP environmental science course. The authors have consulted the APES class guidelines and AP exams from previous years to ensure that required concepts are covered accordingly.

·  AP-Specific Problems in the Text: To assistance your students succeed in the class and on the AP exam, every chapter concludes with multiple choice and free response questions modeled later on those plant on the AP exam.  The end-of-chapter questions were written by sometime exam evolution committee members.

·  "Do the Math" Boxes: This unique feature allows students to review and practice basic math concepts such as dimensional analysis, unit conversion, working with data, reading and interpreting graphs, etc. that are necessary to handle the quantitative material associated with the APES class. The boxes are strategically placed to guide struggling math students through the course.

·  Working Toward Sustainability: Each affiliate closes with a "Working Toward Sustainability" section that shows how individuals in the US and effectually the world are using the science discussed in the chapter to create a more sustainable world.

· Science Practical: A four-page Scientific discipline Practical section which appears every few chapters explores an important environmental issue and offers students an opportunity to see science in action.  This characteristic examines how the science presented in the affiliate is used or at times misused to make decisions about the most important contemporary ecology issues.

I loved the pictures/figures of the fish ladders, the solar cooking in Republic of chad, the charcoal sales and the geographic variation of solar (to name a few). These are all classic examples of things that other texts neglect to address. I take these examples in my ain PowerPoint's and class piece of work in some manner considering they are undoubtedly important. Your chapter has very current, very relevant data that is unique... non the standard, bones APES info.

Tammy Keilman, Crown Betoken High School (IN)

Equally a long-time AP Exam Reader, I think information technology is of import that the text is built from the ground up with APES in mind. As a long-fourth dimension advocate for scientific discipline literacy the Scientific discipline Applied goal is extremely of import to me.
Jeffery A. Schneider, State University of New York at Oswego (NY)

I like that it's modeled after the APES framework. This makes the content more accessible to my loftier school students -- Even though they're expected to do college-level work in this course, they are still high school students. The thematic approach would give them a ameliorate sense of the big picture more effectively than a collection of divide topics would. The Science Applied sections add together relevant, electric current real-world examples – something the students e'er enquire for more of.
Allison Fifty. Winward, Kamiakin High School (WA)

This is the first AP Environmental Scientific discipline Textbook that I have seen that truly focuses on the needs of high school students taking a rigorous university course and preparing for the challenging AP Exam.
Jay Kurima, Fort Worth Independent Schoolhouse Commune (TX)

This is a text that faithfully follows the mandated APES topic outline so using it will ensure that students taking the grade will be exposed to all the necessary topics. The book is current (which is essential in a text like this) and easy to empathize. It besides offers some valuable extras such as the do multiple choice and free-response questions. It also includes mathematical trouble solving (some other essential requirement for APES courses). Lastly, it is piece of cake for students to understand and equally the author states, "The text is comprehensive yet enables students to identify important concepts without being overwhelmed past excessive lists, boxes, or terminology."
Frank Kuserk, Moravian College (PA)

I detect these capacity less cumbersome, more cohesive, more readable, and better directed toward the intent of the AP ES curriculum.
Gary Osowick, Taunton Loftier School (MA)

I similar the way it is written, very appropriate for the high school AP educatee. It manages to present data at a level that is neither besides simplistic or childish, nor overly complicated. I likewise like the fact that at several different points the authors make a concerted endeavor to teach both sides of an issue and recognize that while homo has potential to cause environmental damage, we besides have the potential to solve a lot of the bug. I also institute the inclusion of math based questions and queries to be a potentially invaluable addition.
Jonathan D. Cole, Holmdel High School (NJ)

It is an engaging text filled with relevant and interesting examples. The end-of-chapter questions are proficient and there are excellent examples of the types of calculations that are required on the AP examination. The Science Applied sections brand good apply of the concepts discussed in the chapter.
Judith Perrella, University of the Holy Names (FL)

The character of the examples is what sets this book apart for me. The writer enhances his discussions through example very effectively, more effectively than other texts I take reviewed. This makes for a very open up, readable text, and is also an excellent strategy for targeting the high-schoolhouse age market place. For me, it is the author's effective illumination of topic through case that is the book'south 'value added'. The effectiveness of this prose way would probably be a primary reason for selecting this text over another.
J. Dirk Valk, McKeel Academy of Technology (FL)

The science applied would resonate favorably with high school students and would help very much in presenting arguments on diverse environmental issues on the costless response question on the AP examination.
Annetta Pasquarello, Triton Regional Loftier School (NJ)

Well-written, teacher and student- friendly and dandy FRQs at the end of the chapter.
Pamela J. Shlachtman, Miami Palmetto High School (FL)

The 'scientific discipline applied' add-ons to the chapters are a slap-up thought. Information technology gives an opportunity to introduce a new issue within the chapter's context or framework.
Jason Y. Choi, Sleepy Hollow Loftier School (NY)

Environmental Science for AP*…is one of the best text books that I take gotten my hands on. The Instructor's resources are also only amazing.
Dr. Dorothy Jelagat Cheruiyot, Brookstone School (GA)
